Function & Working Principle
Mechanical agitation keeps water, alkali or bleaching earth evenly dispersed so reactions proceed uniformly throughout the batch.
Tapered tank bottoms let hydrated gums, soapstock and spent earth collect and be discharged, separating impurities from the clarified oil above.
Steam or thermal heating brings each batch to the working temperature needed for hydration, neutralization and bleaching.
Surfaces in contact with the oil use stainless steel to resist corrosion from acids, alkali and hot oil and to suit food-grade processing.
Degumming, neutralizing and decolorizing are arranged as connected stages so oil can be transferred between treatments in sequence.
Pumps move oil between tanks and assist in adding reagents, supporting orderly batch handling.
Working principle
Water or acid is mixed into the heated oil so phospholipids (gums) hydrate, swell and become insoluble, then settle out and are drawn from the conical tank bottom.
An alkali is dosed and stirred in to react with free fatty acids, forming soapstock that separates from the oil and is removed, lowering acidity.
The neutralized oil is washed to carry away residual soap and traces of alkali, then heated under reduced conditions to remove moisture before bleaching.
Bleaching earth is mixed into the heated oil to adsorb pigments and remaining trace impurities, then filtered off to leave a clear, light-colored oil.
